About the MCS-201 assignment
The MCS-201 assignment covers C and Python programming. C topics include algorithms, flowcharts, structures, patterns, matrices and file handling. Python topics include conditional logic, packages, lambda functions, file operations and co-routines.
There are ten compulsory questions across Section A (C) and Section B (Python), each worth 8 marks. Written responses carry 80 marks, while the compulsory viva-voce carries 20 marks. Students must include screen layouts with their responses and may use illustrations and diagrams to explain their work.
What the assignment asks
| Question | Marks | Topic |
|---|---|---|
| Q1 | 8 | Develop an algorithm, flowchart and C program for converting a decimal number into binary. |
| Q2 | 8 | Develop an algorithm and a structure-based C program to produce four-term progress reports for a CBSE Class VIII section of 20 students, making assumptions where needed. |
| Q3 | 8 | Write a C program that prints a five-row number pattern, with each row listing numbers from 1 up to its row number. |
| Q4 | 8 | Write a C program to calculate D = A + (B × C) using three 3-by-3 input matrices. |
| Q5 | 8 | Use C file handling to separate N input numbers into evenfile and oddfile according to whether they are even or odd. |
| Q6 | 8 | Write a commented Python program that checks whether a user-entered year is a leap year. |
| Q7 | 8 | Write a Python program that validates a score between 0.0 and 1.0 and assigns a grade using the supplied thresholds. |
| Q8 | 8 | Create an Area package containing square, circle and rectangle modules with area functions, then import and use them from a separate location. |
| Q9 | 8 | Write Python code to cube list values using lambda, count word frequencies in a file, display a user-specified number of initial lines and report file size in bytes. |
| Q10 | 8 | Explain co-routines and cooperative multitasking in Python, and compare co-routines with threads and subroutines. |
This is a summary of each question. Download the official PDF above for the exact questions and word limits.
How to write and submit it
- Answer all ten questions from both sections.
- Include screen layouts with your assignment responses; illustrations and diagrams may also be used.
- Follow the assignment presentation guidelines in the Programme Guide.
- MCA_NEW students must submit their assignments to their Study Centre Coordinator by the due date.
- MCAOL students must submit their assignments through the LMS Portal by the due date.
- Timely assignment submission is required for eligibility to appear in the corresponding term-end examinations.
- Attend the compulsory assignment viva-voce; submitting the assignment without attending it results in zero marks and unsuccessful completion.
Submission dates: 31 October 2026 (listed for the June term-end exam; the PDF identifies this as the July 2026 session deadline). Dates can differ by session. No December term-end exam deadline is provided in the listing.
