About This Update
IREL (India) Limited has put the online application for its Tradesman Trainee recruitment on hold. The notification for Advt. No. CO/HRM/36/2026 was issued on 16/10/2026, with the form due to open at 10 AM on 19/10/2026 and close at 6 PM on 09/11/2026. IREL has since postponed the window due to a technical issue; its updated advertisement shows both dates as "To be Notified". The notification covers 131 posts across four trades.
Vacancy Highlights
- Fitter: 93 posts, the bulk of the recruitment, spread across OSCOM in Odisha (32), Chavara in Kerala (26), Manavalakurichi in Tamil Nadu (20), RED Aluva in Kerala (13), and one each at REPM Visakhapatnam and RETTP Bhopal.
- AOCP (Attendant Operator Chemical Plant): 20 posts at RED Aluva (11), Chavara (4), REPM Visakhapatnam (3) and RETTP Bhopal (2).
- Electrician: 12 posts at OSCOM (4), Manavalakurichi (4), Chavara (3) and RED Aluva (1).
- Instrumentation: 6 posts at OSCOM (4), REPM Visakhapatnam (1) and RETTP Bhopal (1).
- Pay: a stipend of ₹34,200 per month during one year of training, then the W-3 Tradesman scale of ₹22,000-88,000.
Who Can Apply
Each trade needs an ITI or NAC in that trade plus 2 years of experience. Electrician applicants must also hold a valid statutory licence. For AOCP, Class 12 Science with Chemistry and 50% aggregate marks is accepted instead of the trade certificate. The upper age limit is 35 years as on the closing date (09/11/2026 in the notification), with 3 years' relaxation for OBC (NCL) and 5 years for SC/ST. You can apply for only one post at one unit.
What To Do Now
- Hold off on applying until IREL publishes revised dates on its careers page.
- Use the extra time to collect your ITI / NAC certificate and experience certificates, the Class 12 marksheet if you are applying for AOCP on that basis, and the statutory licence if you are an Electrician.
- Keep the fee ready: ₹826 for General / OBC (NCL) / EWS, ₹354 for SC / ST / PwBD / ESM, women and IREL internal candidates.
Selection Stages
Candidates will sit a 2-hour computer-based test of 150 questions (100 on the trade, 50 on general knowledge, reasoning, numerical ability and English) with no negative marking. Those who qualify are called to a qualifying skill test (trade test or computer proficiency test) in a 1:5 ratio, and the final merit list is based on the written test marks, followed by document verification and medical examination.
