About the MCS-207 assignment
The MCS-207 assignment covers database foundations, relational modelling, ER diagrams, normalization, SQL, transactions and concurrency control. It also examines analytical database design, NoSQL, query optimization and recovery, using examples from healthcare, research publications and data science.
There are four questions worth 20 marks each, making 80 marks for written work, with another 20 marks for a compulsory viva voce. Each question has multiple parts, and answers to individual parts should be about 300 words. Illustrations and diagrams may be used, and any necessary assumptions should be stated.
What the assignment asks
| Question | Marks | Topic |
|---|---|---|
| Q1 | 5 × 4 = 20 | Discuss file-system limitations and relational concepts, design a healthcare ER model and convert it into 3NF relations, and compare types of database indexes. |
| Q2 | 4+4+4+8=20 | Identify keys and dependencies in a dataset relation, demonstrate redundancy with sample records, normalize it, and write table-creation, data-insertion and analytical SQL statements for a research publication database. |
| Q3 | 4+8+8=20 | Explain ACID through a banking transfer, analyse a transaction schedule for its result and serializability, and discuss two-phase locking, consistency and deadlocks. |
| Q4 | 5 × 4 = 20 | Write example-supported notes on centralized and distributed databases, warehouse schemas, a NoSQL database type, analytical query optimization, and log-based recovery with checkpointing. |
This is a summary of each question. Download the official PDF above for the exact questions and word limits.
