Essential repeat, compartment, fail and improvement candidates can apply from 8 October 2026 till 23 October 2026 without a late fee, or till 30 October 2026 with a late fee of ₹2000. About This Update

The Central Board of Secondary Education issued notices on 7 October 2026 inviting examination forms from private candidates for the Class 10 and Class 12 board exams of session 2026-27. These students will write their papers in February / March / April 2027 alongside the Board's main examinations, and the papers will follow the CBSE syllabus for 2027. The online form opened on 8 October 2026.

Who Can Apply

Students of session 2025-26 declared Essential Repeat in the 2026 result.
Students placed in Compartment in the 2026 Main and Supplementary exams (second chance compartment).
Students declared Fail or Essential Repeat in 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025 or 2026.
Students who passed in 2026 and want to improve their performance in one or more subjects.

Fee And Deadlines

Normal fee: ₹320 per subject for candidates in India (₹1100 in Nepal and ₹2200 in other countries).
Class 12 practical fee: ₹160 per practical subject in India (₹175 in Nepal and ₹375 in other countries).
Last date without late fee: 23 October 2026, 11:59 PM.
With a late fee of ₹2000 per candidate: 24 to 30 October 2026.

What To Do Now

Apply through the private candidate link on the CBSE website; offline forms are not accepted.
If you appeared in 2026, check the auto-filled details; candidates of 2025 and earlier must enter their old roll number and year of passing exactly, as wrong entries lead to rejection.
Choose your exam centre city with care, since the centre cannot be changed after allotment.
Pay the fee online before the deadline; forms submitted without fee are rejected without notice.
