Exam Pattern at a Glance

Written examination with two papers for both Lower Division Clerk and Junior Assistant posts.

Paper I: General Knowledge

Topical issues: major national and regional events and issues, and the organisations linked to them
Geography and natural resources: India's ecology and wild animals; physical features of Rajasthan including climate, vegetation and soil; major physical conditions; human resources (population and tribes); natural resources of Rajasthan (minerals, forests, water, animals); wildlife conservation
Agriculture and economic development in Rajasthan: major crops, agro-based industries, major irrigation schemes, desert area development projects, handicrafts, economic planning, role of Panchayati Raj
History and culture of Rajasthan: medieval history, independence movement and political awakening, political reorganisation, folklore and literature, folk songs and folk dances, saints, poets and warriors, local deities and communal harmony, fairs and festivals, customs, culture and traditional attire
Industrial development of Rajasthan: major industries and industrial sectors, availability of raw materials, mineral-based small, medium, large and cottage industries, sources of energy (hydroelectricity, thermal power, solar power)

Paper I: Everyday Science

Physical and chemical changes, oxidation and reduction, catalysts, metals and non-metals and their important compounds, compounds used in daily life
Carbon and its compounds: hydrocarbons, allotropes of carbon, chlorofluorocarbons (Freon), CNG, polymers, soaps and detergents
Light: reflection and its laws, dispersion, types of lenses, defects of vision and their correction
Electricity: electric current, Ohm's law, electric cells, Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction, electric motor, household wiring, use, maintenance and safety of household electrical appliances
Space and information technology, India's space research programmes
Genetics: basic terminology, Mendel's laws of inheritance, structure of chromosomes, nucleic acids, central dogma of protein synthesis, sex determination in humans
Environment: structure of ecosystems, biotic factors, energy flow, biogeochemical cycles, basics of biotechnology, bio-patents, development of new plant varieties, transgenic organisms
Economic importance of animals and plants
Blood groups, blood transfusion, Rh factor, pathogens and human health, malnutrition, human diseases with their causes and cures

Samas: forming compound words and Samas Vigrah
Upsarg (prefixes) and Pratyay (suffixes)
Paryayvachi (synonyms), Viparitarthak (antonyms) and Anekarthak (words with several meanings) shabd
Shabd Yugm (word pairs)
Forming adjectives from nouns
Shabd Shuddhi: correcting incorrect words and word-level errors
Vakya Shuddhi: correcting incorrect sentences and sentence-level errors
Vachya: Kartrivachya, Karmavachya and Bhavvachya
Kriya: Sakarmak, Akarmak and Purvakalik verbs
One meaningful word for a phrase
Muhavare and Lokoktiyan (idioms and proverbs)
Hindi equivalents of English technical terms
Translating simple, compound and complex sentences from English to Hindi and from Hindi to English

Paper II: General English

Voice: active and passive
Narration: direct and indirect
Transformation of sentences: assertive to negative, interrogative, exclamatory and vice versa

Translation of simple sentences between Hindi and English
Sentence correction: subject-verb agreement, degrees of adjectives, connectives and wrongly used words
Glossary of official and technical terms with their Hindi versions
Synonyms, antonyms and one-word substitution
Forming new words with prefixes and suffixes
Confusable words
Comprehension of a given passage
Letter writing: official, demi-official, circulars, notices and tenders

Preparation Pointers
