More Information
About the project opportunity
The Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, Pune, has invited applications for its January 2027 M.Sc/M.Tech project session. The project duration is 06 to 09 months. This opportunity is intended for students currently pursuing MSc, MTech or MS programmes. The notice does not give a vacancy count, age limit, application fee or pay amount. Online applications close on 22 November 2026.
Eligibility and mentor approval
Students need at least 55% marks or equivalent CGPA in every examination from SSC onward. Before applying, they must identify a prospective IITM scientist mentor and obtain that scientist's consent by email. Annexure A lists available scientists, with entries running to serial number 109, and includes their designations and research areas. These entries are mentor listings, not an announced number of student vacancies.
The research areas include monsoon prediction, atmospheric chemistry, cloud microphysics, climate modelling, ocean modelling and remote sensing. Students may discuss their interests with prospective guides online. A mentor's agreement is required for the application but does not assure selection.
Prepare and submit the application
Applicants must assemble a detailed CV showing their area of interest, SSC and HSC mark lists, all bachelor's degree mark lists, available master's degree mark lists and the mentor's consent email. The documents must be combined into one PDF of no more than 03 MB. A separate clear photograph must be uploaded in JPG, PNG or GIF format, within 100 KB. Filenames must contain no periods except the one before the extension.
A departmental recommendation letter must identify the proposed IITM mentor. It can accompany the application and is compulsory at joining after selection.
Review the popup preview before clicking Submit, as no editing is allowed afterward. The automated acknowledgment includes the acknowledgment number and completed form, but not the uploaded photograph or PDF. Check spam or junk folders if it does not arrive. Missing CV or mark lists may lead to rejection; where multiple applications exist, only the latest is evaluated.
Selection and accommodation
The Academic Cell will conduct merit-based selection, and selected students' names will appear on the IITM website. Hostel rooms may be offered to a limited number of outstation students, subject to availability, with details communicated in the selection email. Local students will not receive accommodation.
