Check the correct session requirements
Applicants should begin with the general eligibility information for January 2027 and then read the brochure for their chosen department. Requirements can differ by department and admission category. The July 2026 eligibility conditions are provided only for reference and should not be treated as confirmed requirements for this cycle.
The available disciplines span engineering, science, design, liberal arts, management and interdisciplinary research. Candidates should choose the programme relevant to their academic background before completing the application.
Complete the online application
- Open the official Ph.D. admissions page and review the relevant departmental brochure.
- Follow the application link, register or sign in, and select the appropriate category and department.
- Complete the personal and academic sections, including entrance-test and experience information where applicable.
- Upload the documents requested by the portal, review the entries and pay any fee displayed.
- Submit before the closing time and retain the submitted application and acknowledgement.
The centralized IITH portal is the application route except for QIP admissions. QIP candidates must apply through the AICTE website.
Shortlisting, funding and documents
For the January round, shortlisted applicants may be invited directly to one or more online interview rounds. Departments can prescribe their own cut-offs. The update describes written testing as typical of the July round; it does not announce a January written-test date.
The funding information identifies IITH support through Ministry of Education funding and also permits applications from candidates with INSPIRE or CSIR-UGC NET JRF funding. Required documents must be uploaded through the portal at admission. Admission remains provisional until all necessary documents have been supplied.
