About the BNRI-102 assignment
The BNRI-102 assignment covers the hydrologic cycle, rainfall frequency, water balance, infiltration and evaporation. It also asks students to compare methods for estimating catchment rainfall and apply the Thiessen polygon method to supplied data.
This tutor-marked assignment has five compulsory questions carrying equal marks, with each answer expected to be about 500 words. It totals 50 marks and contributes 20% to the theory component. The work includes explanations, a schematic diagram, an equation and a numerical calculation.
What the assignment asks
| Question | Marks | Topic |
|---|---|---|
| Q1 | — | Explain the hydrologic cycle and its main components, using a schematic diagram to show the sequence of processes. |
| Q2 | — | Distinguish rainfall frequency from return period and explain the intensity-duration-frequency relationship and its relevance to soil-water conservation structures. |
| Q3 | — | Explain water balance, present its basic equation and describe the main components of a water budget. |
| Q4 | — | Distinguish infiltration, percolation and evaporation, compare infiltration rate with accumulated infiltration, and describe methods for measuring infiltration and evaporation. |
| Q5 | — | Compare the Isohyetal and Thiessen polygon methods and calculate average annual catchment rainfall from the supplied five-station rainfall and polygon-area data. |

How to write and submit it
- Answer all five questions, writing about 500 words for each answer.
- Handwrite the assignment on foolscap-size paper; typed submissions are not accepted.
- Leave a 3-inch left margin and at least four lines between answers, and clearly label each answer with its question number.
