• Hold a BE/B.Tech in Electrical, Mechanical or Mining Engineering from a recognized university or institute, or an equivalent degree directly relevant to the position.
• Have at least 25 years of professional experience in the Coal/Thermal sector with Central Government, State Government or public sector undertakings, assessed on the notification date.
• Within that experience, at least 15 years must relate to construction, design, development, operation and maintenance of thermal power plants or coal mines.
• Within those 15 years, at least 3 cumulative years must be at the specified senior levels: General Manager/Superintending Engineer, Chief Engineer/Chief General Manager/Executive Director, or equivalent rank.
• A postgraduate engineering qualification in the same discipline, a two-year MBA or a Ph.D. from a recognized institution is desirable.
• Alternatively, Organized Group 'A' Service officers, including IRTS/IRMS officers, working at an appropriate level are exempt from the stated educational qualifications. They need at least 5 cumulative years of senior-level experience during the last 10 years in the specified coal procurement, linkage, mining, railway freight, rake management, port operations, logistics, fuel supply, coal quality, supply-chain or related commercial and contract management functions.
• Eligible Group 'A' officers must serve on deputation under their parent department's terms. Applicants must also meet the notice's health and declaration requirements.

Board-level appointment at APGENCO

APGENCO, a Government of Andhra Pradesh undertaking, has issued Notification No. 02/JS(Per)/2026 dated 2 November 2026 for one Director (Coal & Logistics). The appointee will join the Board of Directors, report to the Managing Director and work at Vidyut Soudha, Vijayawada. Responsibilities will be assigned by the Board or Managing Director.

Who the opportunity is for

The regular eligibility route combines a relevant engineering degree with at least 25 years of Coal/Thermal sector experience in government or public sector organizations. This must include 15 years in the specified thermal power plant or coal mine functions and 3 cumulative years at the prescribed senior levels. Relevant postgraduate engineering qualifications, a two-year MBA or a Ph.D. are desirable.

Organized Group 'A' Service officers at the appropriate level have an alternative route. They are exempt from the stated educational qualifications but need 5 cumulative years of relevant senior-level experience during the previous 10 years. Their appointment will be on deputation under their parent department's terms. The maximum age is 65 years on the notification date.

Selection, tenure and completeness checks

Shortlisting will depend on the experience profile, followed by a personal interview. The initial appointment lasts two years; up to two one-year extensions are possible through the prescribed approval process and outstanding assessment requirement.

Applications lacking CR dossiers/ACRs or vigilance clearance, or containing incomplete information, will not be accepted. APGENCO will not accept additional information supplied after submission. False or suppressed information can lead to cancellation of candidature or termination even after joining. Selected government servants must retire before appointment, while eligible Group 'A' officers follow the separate deputation conditions.
