About the recruitment

TISS is recruiting two officers for Prayas, a field action project of the Centre for Criminology and Justice, School of Social Work. Advertisement ADVT/TISS/PROJECT/PRAYAS/OCTOBER 2026 covers one Senior Research Officer and one Senior Documentation and Communication Officer at the Mumbai campus. Both vacancies are unreserved, although candidates from reserved categories may also apply.

Work, eligibility and contract terms

Prayas works towards the socio-legal and economic rehabilitation of people at risk of criminalisation, commercial sexual exploitation and destitution. The research role involves field studies, data collection, documentation and engagement with criminal justice stakeholders, government functionaries and civil society. The documentation and communication role covers project records, funding reports, proposals, newsletters, social media content and coordination of media production.

Both roles require at least 3 years of relevant experience in criminal justice or social work with marginalised populations. Candidates holding an M.Phil or Ph.D., or approaching Ph.D. completion, receive preference. Each appointment lasts 12 months and pays Rs 70,000 per month, inclusive of Travelling Allowance. Selected applicants must join within 15 days of selection.
