About the MCS-011 assignment
The MCS-011 assignment covers problem solving through C programming. Topics include recursion, iteration, arrays, matrices, strings, dynamic memory allocation, structures, file handling and preprocessor directives. Tasks combine explanations with programs for numerical operations, inventory, library records and electricity billing.
There are eight compulsory questions worth 10 marks each, making 80 marks for written work. The remaining 20 marks are for viva-voce. Students may include illustrations and diagrams and should follow the presentation guidelines in the BCA Programme Guide.
What the assignment asks
| Question | Marks | Topic |
|---|---|---|
| Q1 | 10 | Explain recursion and iteration, develop separate C programs for finding the GCD of two positive integers using each method, and compare the approaches. |
| Q2 | 10 | Develop a one-dimensional array program to identify the second largest and second smallest values, count even and odd entries, display duplicates and calculate the average. |
| Q3 | 10 | Write a square-matrix program to calculate row, column and diagonal sums, test symmetry and display the transpose. |
| Q4 | 10 | Create a switch-case string menu without built-in string functions for reversal, word counting, uppercase conversion, anagram checking and vowel and consonant frequencies. |
| Q5 | 10 | Explain dynamic memory allocation and use it to manage product records, display inventory, identify the costliest product, calculate total value and release memory, discussing its benefits. |
| Q6 | 10 | Explain structures and nested structures, then design library records and functions for entering, displaying and searching books, filtering by author and finding the book with the most copies. |
| Q7 | 10 | Develop a file-based electricity billing program that reads consumer records, calculates bills, checks subsidy eligibility using user-defined criteria, saves results and explains the file operations. |
