About the MBCE-017 assignment
The MBCE-017 assignment covers all blocks of the elective course Omics. Topics include genome mapping, sequencing, gene expression, microarrays, proteomics, metabolomics, pharmacophore features and biological databases or software.
This tutor-marked assignment has two parts and 10 numbered questions, carrying 100 marks overall. All numbered questions are compulsory, with a choice of two short-note topics in Questions 5 and 10. Some questions have separately marked subparts. The assignment contributes 30% to continuous evaluation, and students need 35% to pass it.

How to write and submit it
- Attempt every numbered question and write precise answers in your own words, following the short-note choices provided.
- Put your enrolment number, name, full address, signature and date at the top right of the first response page.
- Put the programme title, course code, course title, assignment code and study centre name at the top left of the first response page.
- Use foolscap-size writing paper that is not very thin, and leave 4 cm margins on the left, top and bottom.
- Submit the complete answer sheets to your Study Centre by the applicable deadline; late answer sheets are not accepted.
- Keep a copy of your answer sheets, as recommended in the booklet.
- The booklet states that students who fail this assignment or do not submit it by 30 June 2027 must use the 2027-28 assignment and follow the Programme Guide instructions.
- Submit this assignment before filling in the examination form for the course.
